In 2018, the Mainland continued to be our largest visitor source market, accounting for 78% of our total arrival, and the figure was 14.8% higher than that in 2017. On the other hand, visitor arrivals from non-Mainland markets continued to grow by 0.6%, with some of these markets recording notable increases. For example, arrivals from Japan and the United States surged by 4.7% and 7.3% respectively.
Hong Kong’s top ten visitor source markets in 2018 in the order of arrival number were the Mainland, Taiwan, Korea, the United States, Japan, Macao, the Philippines, Singapore, Australia and the United Kingdom. Altogether they accounted for over 93% of the total visitor arrivals.
Hong Kong offers world-class convention and exhibition facilities and a wide range of tourist attractions. We strive to bring more Meetings, Incentives, Conventions and Exhibitions (MICE) events to Hong Kong so as to attract more high-spending overnight visitors. In 2018, overnight MICE arrivals grew by 2.1% to the all-time high of 1.97 million.
